In today’s post we’re going to dive into Creed II with my Creed II movie review!
Just so you are aware, all my movie reviews are spoiler free. You are going to get my honest reactions to Creed II without reading anything that will ruin your moviegoing experience.
In this post you will learn about my favorite cinematic moments, the job the cast does, how well the story works and if the movie is worth the price of admission.
So if you are wondering if Creed II is worth seeing in theaters or purchasing, you will love this review.
Let’s get right into my Creed II movie review.
First Impressions
Before I begin with my Creed II movie review, I just want to start by saying there is no better cinematic moment than a boxing training montage.
Well, except for Darth Vader killing a bunch of fools (namely at the end of Rogue One).
Creed II picks up where the first Creed movie left off.
This one has a lot of emotion and energy throughout that really makes you care about the characters and understand their motivations.
At the end of the movie you do an internal check on yourself and to see how you can fight through everything to become a better person.
While Creed II is predictable, it follows the tried and true format of all the best Rocky/Creed movies.
It leaves you motivated and inspired and ready to take the steps necessary to get out of your own way to accomplish your goals.
Incredible Cast
Michael B. Jordan and Tessa Thompson are outstanding. They are both just phenomenal actors that put their prowess on display.
Jordan also puts his shredded and bulked up physique on display. He really gives off the impression that he could enter the ring and deliver, albeit not at the heavyweight division. Maybe middleweight or light heavyweight, but that’s neither here nor there.
Florian Munteanu is impressive as Viktor Drago and is an absolute beast. I would pass on getting in the ring with him for sure.
I love seeing Phylicia Rashad in anything. It really brings me back to a happy place and she always nails her roles.
However, I really enjoy seeing Sylvester Stallone reprise his role as Rocky Balboa and once again go back to the roots of the character like in the first Creed movie.
The Rocky character really shines when he’s portrayed as he originally was: understated, emotional and prone to both brilliance and folly. He is a flawed character and Stallone knows how to bring out the best in him.
Dolph Lundgren is back as Ivan Drago and shows off the pain from his big loss to Rocky.
I Love a Good Boxing Montage
Once again, boxing montages are some of the best action scenes in any movie.
Creed II has a great montage that really amps you up and gets you ready for the final big fight. There really are few things in movies better than a good boxing montage.
While Stallone and Lundgren do share a scene together, the movie does not focus on them. I really enjoyed that aspect about the movie. Make no mistake, the mantle has been passed on to Jordan and he is running with it.
Final Thoughts
Creed II was really good, totally worth the price of admission and I definitely recommend this movie.
