What's Crackin' Everyone? I'm Scott!

The Director of Awesomeness

My Background

Hey guys! My name is Scott Morrison, the Director of Awesomeness and creator of Scott’s Treks. I’d like to welcome you all to my blog!

I live in the Los Angeles area with my grandma (she’s 97 as of June 2019) and help take care of her. I’ve always had a passion for travel, writing, comic books, music and movies.

Most recently I was the general manager for a tour company. In my 6.5 years at the tour company I helped establish them from a small start up to the #1 rated all-day tour company in Los Angeles on TripAdvisor.

I also ran the pub crawl for the Hosteling International Santa Monica youth hostel with a few friends for 5 years.

Growing up my parents would always take my younger brother and I on fun trips all over the United States.

That ignited my interest in traveling.

There were trips to Yosemite, Hawaii, the Grand Canyon, DC and more. I can distinctly remember the trips to Yosemite and Maui as being the catalyst for my interest in travel and nature.

The beauty both places had left me wanting to see more of what was out there in the world.

For several years I did a bunch of domestic travel to see friends, family and explore new places.

My goal was always to visit all 50 states and currently I’ve been to 33 states and Washington DC.

3 Aspects of Travel I’m Drawn to

  1. Experiencing a new adventure in a place I’ve never been to.
  2. Meeting amazing people and soaking up as much of the culture in each location.
  3. Just getting away from the normal grind and having fun.

Why I Travel

I always dreamed of traveling internationally, however, I just never pulled the trigger to do it.

There was always some excuse. There were music festivals to go to, parties to be had, work, not enough money, nervousness about going into unfamiliar places and the list goes on.

I would live vicariously through the awesome stories my friends would tell coming back from their travels.

Friends they would meet along the way would come visit us in the States and tell me all the amazing things about where they lived.

I would always say “yeah, I’ll visit there someday.”

Working at the tour company and running the pub crawl brought much of the world to me. The people I met were on 3-year holidays, families on their dream vacations, international students and people just traveling until they ran out of money.

I love adventures and am very much a people person. My interactions with each of these individuals really lit a spark in me and got my travel juices flowing.

I would do my best to stay in touch with as many people I met as possible. My fascination with their lives and stories led me to hope we would meet up again one day.

One day.

More and more saying one day just really got on my nerves. I felt I was missing out on a lot out there in the world and within myself.

I did the Coachella and Welcome to Jamrock cruises with friends that went to Jamaica. That was first real country I visited outside the US (Tijuana is basically South San Diego and I don’t really count that, or Matamoros near Texas).

The travel spark grew into a fire.

Finally, after much deliberation (and friends saying, “just do it!”), I planned a monthlong trip to Europe for the fall of 2017.

After I had knee surgery in November 2016, I crushed my physical therapy, lost 55 pounds and purchased a flight into Copenhagen and back to LA out of London.

I had a rough idea of where I might go between those 2 locations, but nothing was planned.

All I knew was I wanted to try and visit as many of my friends in Europe as I could and have an epic adventure.

Mission accomplished.

My experience visiting Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Berlin, Dresden, Prague, Vienna, Venice, Bern, Paris, London and Edinburgh was amazing.

I met the most amazing people along the way, whom I still keep in touch with and am proud to call them friends.

When I got back home from that trip, I felt reborn and had a new passion: traveling. It didn’t take long for me to plan my next trip, and the trip after that, and then another and so on.

For the past year I’ve been thinking a lot about my 4 big passions, writing, travel, people and adventures, trying to think of a way to incorporate all of them.

The end result is this blog.

I have no knowledge of how to build a website or write a blog, however, the challenge of doing this on my own is both frustrating and exhilarating (though mostly exhilarating).

This blog is going to be a work in progress for a while as I shape my vision.

In fact, I plan on it constantly evolving, so you will all have to bear with me on that.

I do know that this will not be a typical travel planning/helping blog that’s all about visiting the top touristy places. That’s just not how I travel.

While I am interested in seeing those historical sites, I am more interested in meeting new wonderful people from all walks of life and backgrounds and experiencing the culture of each place I visit.

My goal is to showcase the awesome people out there in the world and have some amazing experiences doing solo travel along the way.

I want to share my passions with you, inspire you and to spread awesomeness around the world.

Together we can all live, breathe, and discover awesomeness!
