11 Songs I’m Listening to as I Create Scott’s Treks
I love making playlists. Music is a great motivator for me, and it really helps get the creative juices flowing. If you play the right songs, that is. Sometimes I’ll end up playing songs that distract me from my task at hand. That’s where my playlists come in.
I create playlists for every little thing I do, it’s almost like an obsession. My plan is to share little mini-playlists that are a sample of what I’m listening to with everyone. Hopefully it will introduce some new music to you or play songs you love. I’m always on the lookout for new music, so please comment below with what you feel should be added. Here is my Creating a Blog Playlist. A sample of 11 songs I’m listening to as I create and design Scott’s Treks.
1. Prologue – John Williams (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone or Philosopher’s Stone)
John Williams is my all-time favorite conductor. I actually had the pleasure of getting to see him conduct the LA Philharmonic last summer and it was one of the greatest moments of my life. Everyone loves Harry Potter, right? And this song is a great introduction to creating an incredible new world, just like me. John Williams is a total G and you will see a lot of him on my playlists.
2. Clandestino – Manu Chao (Clandestino)
If you ever get a chance to see Manu Chao live, you have to see him. He brings so much energy to his live sets and it’s a dance-a-thon for 2 hours. His album music is a little more mellow, but still incredible. He’s one of my favorite musicians for sure.
3. Welcome to My Life – Empire of the Sun (Two Vines)
Another all-time favorite and a must see live. Empire of the Sun plays some great music and if you see them live, you will be dancing and smiling the whole way through. You will see a trend here where I definitely recommend everyone see music live.
4. Thunderstruck – AC/DC (The Razor’s Edge)
I mean, come on, this song has to pump you up. Angus Young is an absolute beast on this song and any time I listen to it I’m motivated.
5. Wherever I May Roam – Metallica (Metallica/The Black Album)
What better song for a traveler? Metallica is my favorite band by far and this is the ultimate road warrior song. Metallica puts on one of the best live shows of any artist and I can’t recommend seeing them enough. I just saw them live in Zurich, Switzerland in May with 50,000 other fans. They still got it and absolutely crushed it!
6. Around the World – Daft Punk (Homework)
I love Daft Punk. They make some of the most popular and catchy dance music. Hearing their music just makes you want to get up and dance and move – all around the world.
7. You Wanted a Hit – LCD Soundsytem (This is Happening)
I was at Coachella one year and my friend grabbed my arm and said, “Scotty, trust me, come with me to hear this band. You’ll love them.” That band was LCD Soundsytem and I was totally blown away. Such a unique and groovy group that brings such great energy to their shows. I was fortunate to see them this past year at the Hollywood Bowl and it was one of the best shows I’ve ever seen there. They are a must for everyone to download and see!
8. Courage – The Whitest Boy Alive (Rules)
One of the things I love about music festivals is stumbling across bands you’ve never heard of while walking the grounds. The Whitest Boy Alive is a German-Norweigan band that sucks you in with their smooth electro-rock compositions. One of my favorite random discoveries for sure.
9. Faith in Me – Vokab Kompany (The Good Kompany Album)
Vokab Kompany is a local electro-hip-hop SoCal group based in San Diego. I love their music and they absolutely bring it in their live shows. So much energy and so much love for them. Go see Vokab Kompany if you get the chance, you will not be disappointed.
10. Don’t Stop Me Now – Queen (Jazz)
I think Queen is one of the most underrated bands ever. They were so unique in the style of rock music they played and really pushed the envelope. Their music really gets you motivated and it’s impossible not to sing along with it.
11. The Ecstasy of Gold – Ennio Morricone (The Good, The Bad And The Ugly)
Ennio Morricone is one of the best composers ever. His music brings a lot of emotion with each piece and really motivates me. This is his signature composition and is also the song that Metallica opens every show with. You can’t tell me this doesn’t give you the feels and motivate you. Love it!
